After nearly a decade of providing free project-based coding courses in San Francisco, Mission Bit is well poised to grow its reach to more students across the Bay Area. New classes have been added, as well as new programs and new staff. Our team has evolved from a small but mighty team of three to twelve employees in the Mission Bit organization. It only makes sense that our branding has also evolved as well.

Why rebrand now?
The growth of Mission Bit has allowed us to see the potential for further alignment between our branding and our audience. Our old branding was good, but why not be great? We are stepping into an era of expansion and evolution, and our branding is the outward expression of that. We wanted to showcase who Mission Bit is today and the future ahead for us.

How has our brand evolved?
We built a solid foundation with our old branding, but we want to keep changing with the times. As our founding students establish themselves in the industry and a new generation of students engage with our programming, we have to adjust our offerings in not only our coursework and programs but also our marketing. The new logo, colors, and assets more accurately emulate the vibrant, playful energy of the youth we serve. Thanks to the generosity of our volunteer independent creative agency, Sans Serif, we can capture this essence in our new branding kit and guidelines to be distributed across all of our communications.

What was the approach behind the rebrand?
The creative process has been a joint effort between the Sans Serif team and Mission Bit executives. Sans Serif makes brand-aligned communication beautiful, intuitive, strategic, and effective. Creative Director Amanda Boshard stated, “We collaborated closely with them, developing mood boards, visual concepts, a logo, and the brand guidelines.” There were many revisions along the way to produce the final branding. Sans Serif Strategist Jason Wyman described the final project outcome saying, “Strategically, verbally, and visually, we distilled the strength and vibrancy of an organization that has already empowered so many.” Thank you to Sans Serif for sharing your wisdom and expertise with us as we usher in this new era.

Mission Bit has grown exponentially in the ten years since its founding. We look forward to another ten years of serving students with our new look!
